250 Years of Freedom

June 29, 2026

This Fourth of July is more than a holiday filled with flags, fireworks, barbecues, and red-white-and-blue decorations. This year marks a historic milestone, the 250th anniversary of America's independence. It was on July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, setting in motion the birth of the United States of America.

Now, 250 years later, the Fourth of July gives us a special opportunity to pause, reflect, celebrate, and appreciate the freedoms that have shaped our country and our communities.

America’s story has never been perfect, but it has always been powerful. It is a story of courage, sacrifice, service, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of a more perfect union. The 250th anniversary is not only a chance to look back at where we began, but also a reminder to look forward to the kind of country we want to help build for future generations.

In South Orange County, close to Lake Forest, the Fourth of July is also a wonderful reminder of what community looks like close to home. Whether you are attending a parade, watching fireworks, enjoying music in the park, or simply spending time with neighbors and family, this holiday brings people together in a way few days can.
